Following on from previous highly successful collaborations; the Australian Academy of Design with the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations) and in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Australien, present Neues Bauen International 1927 | 2002 a travelling exhibition of seminal modern architecture including some of the most influential works of architects: Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Gropius and Lloyd Wright.
Neues Bauen International is based on the 1927 exhibition titled ‘International Plan and Model Exhibition of New Architecture’ which was held in Stuttgart and featured a great body of work from architects across ten countries. It documented the international effect of the modern movement on design and featured many of the great figures of 20th century architecture.
From this 1927 exhibition, Curator Professor Karin Kirsch has selected architects and buildings that have withstood both architectural scrutiny and the ravages of history. The result is an overview of early modernism that highlights how forward thinking their designs were for their time. Professor Kirsch and Dr Anne-Marie Schleich, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Melbourne, will speak at the opening night.
Neues Bauen International 1927|2002 culminates in a stunning show of 105 projects by 66 architects whose designs are represented through architectural models and photographs.
The event will be opened by prominent Melbourne Architect, Karl Fender on Friday 3 February, 2012.
