Industry Placement
The Australian Academy of Design puts much importance on the development of professional awareness in students. During the course of their studies in the Bachelor of Design Arts they are required to undertake two units of Professional Practice related to their major study and two units of Industry Placement.
The Academy relies on professionals in advertising, fashion design, graphic design, photo media and visual arts taking a role in the development of the next generation of creative professionals – it can be a two-way benefit when the Academy students bring fresh and youthful ideas to the professional studio. Professionals who wish to participate and assist can do so by contacting Sandra Boyd, Marketing Manager at:
marketing@designacademy.edu.au
The purpose of the Industry Placement is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes which contribute to the successful practice of art and design in a commercial context. Students are expected to:
• work as part of a design team in developing and implementing a client brief
• work in a co-operative, and where appropriate, self-directed and independent manner
• apply safe and healthy work practices to work activities
• assist in the monitoring of a work program for a design project
• demonstrate an understanding of the social, ethical, legal and
environmental responsibilities of a designer
• research and evaluate a business methodology and develop a business
plan for a professional design studio
• evaluate and improve their personal working methodologies
