Mission

The Australian Academy of Design provides an alternative to university education in advertising, fashion design, graphic design, photo media and visual arts with the goal of becoming a leading international arts education institution.

The mission of the Australian Academy of Design is to:

•   provide a range of educational opportunities in various areas of creative     endeavour from initial vocational education to postgraduate studies and     research;
•   foster close cooperation with the community, industry, commerce and     government, anticipate and respond to their needs through research,     consultancy and continuing education;
•   increase education and work opportunities for people intent on developing a     career in advertising, fashion design, graphic design, photo media and/or     visual arts;
•   maintain an environment that attracts and develops a staff of the highest     quality, committed to the pursuit of academic excellence;
•   develop a spirit of community embracing students, staff and alumni;
•   promote a global perspective among its students and the determination to     strive for an internationally recognised standard of excellence;
•   equip its graduates with the depth of education, the breadth of vision and
    the personal qualities needed to contribute to the development of a     prosperous, equitable and just society.

To achieve this mission, the Academy undertakes to provide educational programs and initiatives, resources and a climate of academic freedom that:

•   instil knowledge and skills and develop creativity, innovation and the
    inquiring mind
•   promote research and development;
•   encourage and facilitate community understanding and use of technology     and ensure that education and training in contemporary technology are     available at all levels;
•   anticipate employment demands for specialist knowledge and skills  in     technology and human services;
•   provide the environment, entry levels, courses, transition arrangements and     support needed for individuals to overcome barriers to further education;
    and
•   offer opportunities for the more meaningful use of leisure and for personal     development and enrichment.
