Governance

The Australian Academy of Design is a not-for-profit college established under the provisions of the Incorporated Associations Act (Vic) 1985. The Academy’s governing body, the Senate, was inaugurated in December 1998.

Senate members are recognised leaders and innovators in art and design and education fields, supplemented by experts in law, accounting, marketing and public relations.  The President of the Senate is Professor Daryl Le Grew.

Academic governance is overseen by the Academic Board, a committee of the Senate. The Board comprises the Chair (a representative of the Senate), Director, Dean of Studies, Coordinator of Studies, Registrar, Program Coordinators, Academic Secretary and Student Representative.

Industry Advisory Panels provide feedback to the Academic Board on industry developments and demand, and course content.

The Academy's Patron is Ken Cato, arguably Australia's most prominent designer.
