Accreditation
The Australian Academy of Design was recognised as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO No. 4656) in 1999 by the Office of Training and Tertiary Education (OTTE) after it was inaugurated in 1998 by the Australian Academy of the Arts. In 2001 the Academy was registered on Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICIS No. 02201G).
The Academy was included on the Commonwealth Register of Cultural Organisations in 2000 and its not-for-profit status was subsequently recognised by the Australian Taxation Office in registering the Academy as a Designated Gift Recipient (DGR). Sponsors and gift donors receive maximum tax exemptions from the ATO.
Between 2001 and 2006 the Academy offered bachelor and master degrees through an affiliation agreement with Charles Sturt University. In 2006, OTTE recognised the Academy as a Higher Education Provider able offer bachelor degrees in its own right.
The same year OTTE accredited the Bachelor of Design Arts, which was developed in association with the Australian Academy of the Arts. The degree, with major studies in Advertising, Graphic Design, Photo Media and Visual Arts, is offered exclusively by the Academy.
