Portfolio Presentation
Every year students apply to enrol at the Academy but present for interviews and portfolio presentations poorly prepared. The Academy has a different selection procedure to many universities in that it interviews every applicant meaning there is no pre-selection process. So your portfolio presentation will be your first opportunity to make an impression. There is a fine balance between presenting your best work and overwhelming the interviewer.
The Academy offers Free Folio Presentation Workshops to assist in getting this balance right. The workshop covers topics such as:
• Should you only present your finest examples or
• Should you provide a good cross-section of work?
• Should your work be presented in some type of notebook presentation or
• Should you mount work on boards which are cumbersome and difficult to transport?
• Should you present concept development drawings?
Every year talented students miss places in creative education courses because they have had to spend so much time and energy meeting the VCE requirements that they forget that there is more to getting a place than just putting their creative work on the interview table. At the Academy we are not just looking at the folio – we are looking for potential in the prospective student. Students with ENTER scores in the 90’s do not necessarily become the most successful designers. Creative talent must be balanced with a determination to succeed and a preparedness to become fully immersed in learning with the endeavour to excel.
