Open Day
Every year the Academy holds its OPEN DAY on the second Sunday in August. This is an opportunity for prospective students to:
• meet the faculty and discuss courses they are interested in
• view the state-of-art facilities at the Academy
• meet Academy students and discuss first hand their experiences as students
• discover transport routes to the Academy, and
• view the high quality of the work produced by students at the Academy.
It is also an opportunity to compare the Academy with the universities that have their Open Day on the same day. The major differences will be:
• the scale of universities some with up to 50,000 students – the Academy prides itself on being small and friendly
• the range of competing studies at the universities in contrast to the specialisation on integrated creative education at the Academy. Where universities usually have separate courses for, say, graphic design and photo media, these are available as majors and sub-majors in the one course at the Academy.
• the absence of a ‘school style’ at the Academy – the approach is based on the knowledge that each student is unique and different and will develop his/her own particular style of expression through the personalised approach to acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge.
The educational objectives of the Academy are focused on developing high levels of creative thinking in the different specialisations offered and at the same time to develop an awareness of the interrelationship of one specialisation to another. This can only happen successfully if the classes are small enough for personalised training and the approach encourages experimentation, analysis, critique and self-evaluation. The Academy provides an educational alternative, oriented towards innovation and creativity.
