Selection Procedure

The Academy has developed its entry requirements to ensure the admission criteria are:

 •    fair
 •    equitable
 •    flexible
 •    transparent
 •    quality controllable.

The Academy seeks to enrol students with diverse backgrounds. The Academy admits to its courses applicants it believes could undertake the course with a reasonable prospect of success. Entry criteria are:

 •    previous studies
 •    previous attainment and/or experiences
 •    commitment to a career as a creative professional and
 •    motivation to succeed.

These criteria are regarded as indicative of an applicant’s likelihood of success in the proposed course.

Admissions Procedure
The Administration Manager and Student Administrator are responsible for initially assessing the eligibility of applications for admission submitted by prospective students. If either person is in doubt of the equivalence of a State or overseas qualification they will refer to various guidelines such as AEI-NOOSR to help establish equivalence.

Although the majority of applicants for courses at the Academy are finishing Year 12 and applying through the VTAC system, the Academy’s selection procedures provide for the admission of non-Year 12 and mature-age applicants.

These criteria are discussed in detail with applicants in a 30-45 minute interview and portfolio presentation.

Entry requirements for each course are set by the Academy’s Academic Board. Each year the Academy uses the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process for offering places to students. Prospective students are also required to make an Application for Admission to the Academy. All applicants are interviewed and present a folio of their creative work. If a prospective student applies from overseas the interview may be conducted by telephone, with an electronic or mailed submission of their creative work supported by a letter of verification from teachers/lecturers.
